The Turkish government has issued a new protest over Greece’s deployment of air defense missiles to a small southeastern Aegean Sea island to counter the threat of Iranian retaliation amid the US and Israeli attacks on Iran. In a statement Thursday, Turkey’s Defense Ministry said the island of Karpathos, where Greece has sent the Patriot missile system, ought to be demilitarized under the international treaty ceding it to Greece after World War II.
The Saudi and Turkish defense ministers condemned the Iranian aggression against their countries in a phone call and discussed the impact of the escalation in the region on regional and international security.
